Today we wanted to share all the wonderful food we have had while in Chile. Each day we start at the church with desayuno, breakfast, which usually consists of pan (bread) with either queso (cheese), marmalade , or huevos y cebollas (eggs and onions). For a treat yesterday we had sopadilla, which is a fried bread......YUMMY! Before we head out for the days jobs we enjoy a devotion together as a team and prayer time.
Around 2pm we have almuerzo (lunch). This is the big meal of the day. We have had chicken, mash potatoes, soups, and chard tortillas. The meal is always served with pan (bread) and picante sauces or an avocado based spread. Everything is followed by dessert. Which has been jello, watermelon, honeydew melon, and the very tasty empanada. A fried pastry filled with queso or meat, egg, and an olive.
About 6pm we stop work for once (pronounced own-say). Once is basically a repeat of our morning meal.
The last few evenings we have tried to treat our host families to dinner. Wednesday when we were in Lautaro we did our shopping at the butcher shop, fruit stands, and grocery store. Some of us were blessed to experience BBQ Chilean style. Others had fresh caught fish. Some also have gotten to experience eating out in Temuco. Temuco is a bigger town about 30 minutes south of Lautaro. It is the city we fly in and out of.
We are blessed to have you as our 'prayer warriors'. We thank you and ask that you continue to keep us in prayer as we wrap up our time here in Lautaro and prepare to fly home.
