Our trip has come to an end. We were so blessed to have this opportunity to bless the people in Chile. They were a huge blessing to us as well in their beautiful servant’s hearts and how they cared for us while we were there. We worked on finishing up the painting on Carlos and Ely’s’s house. The men went fishing on Saturday while the ladies got together and played games and learned how to make sopaipillas and a Chilean dessert. It was wonderful to spend time in fellowship.
February 12th. We removed the forms, took nails out of boards, poured concrete for another entry way into the church, started painting Carlos and Ely’s house, poured forms for the water tower blocks, built a platform for the propane tank, and another step for their house. There is a picture of a sheep being sheared by Carlos. We also Cleaned up garbage on the property. We had a light rain in the morning otherwise sunny ! The ladies made sopapias for lunch for us
The day was mainly spent painting the outside of Carlos and Ely’s house. Sharon and Tom worked on making a cover for the propane tank, Rick worked on the bathroom walls, gravel was placed in front of the steps to their house, the Chilean ladies bought John a cake for his birthday. We have each taken turns doing a devotional at lunch. Also pictured are the completed concrete projects we did. We are pleased with what we have been able to accomplish in this amount of time. We all had dinner with our host families. There are pictures of the meat market and the fruit and vegetable store. They use way less processed foods then the states.
We had a free day and went to a resort village by a lake and river called Pucon. We walked around the town where artisans were selling things and went river rafting. A musician sang happy birthday to John at the restaurant . It was a fun and relaxing day to recharge and finish our work here in Lautaro.
Today we worked on building a new wood shed, moving dirt via wheel barrow to create a place for the sheep, dug post holes for a fence, completed taking down the old shed, and more painting on the green house. After lunch we went to the river to relax and swim. It was a long day but great day. The Mapuche family we were helping was very grateful to have us there.
Sunday we went to the church service in the morning. The ladies had an event in the afternoon where we played bunco and made a heart rose with Hershey’s kisses for a craft the men went to the park.It was a fun and relaxing day.
Monday we went to the “Campo” country. It was the same farm of the Mapuche family we helped last year to dig an irrigation ditch. We helped tear down a shed, move a tree, paint the green house, level some ground, took down some fences, dug up a pipe, and got ready to build a new shed. Quite a productive day. Amazing what can be accomplished with many hands Romans 12:11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
We have had a wonderful time working along side our Chilean brothers and sisters in Christ. Lots of laughter and sharing of stories while trying to bridge the communication gap! As always more food eaten then necessary. Good thing only our luggage will be weighed on the return trip home.
February 8th, 2020
Yesterday we worked on various projects including putting plywood on the underside of the eaves on Carlos and Elly’s house, prepared 2 areas for concrete with wheel chair ramps, digging holes for concrete supports for the water tower, welding plates for the water tower to sit on, and caulking over nails and screws. It was a beautiful sunny day in the neighborhood! We all slept like a rock to catch up on lost sleep 😇.
We have arrived safely in Lautaro, Chile after 16 1/2 hours of actual plane time! We ate lunch at the church, and discussed the projects we will be working on. Last year the team and RVCC had enough extra funds to purchase a reliable hot water tank for Carlos and Ely’s house, pictured with Sharon and Terry. We will be working on the water reservoir also pictured below which will include reinforcing and building a new stand.
You will all be asleep as we head to the airport early Wednesday morning on February 5th. Our plane leaves at 6:11 am. We are blessed this year to have a team from Centralia joining us. John, Mika, Tom, and Natalia. We are excited to see what God has in store for us. We are grateful for your prayers and interest in what we are doing. Follow the blog to stay tuned in for the news from Chile.
